Make the Date Feel Like a Date

A first date should not feel like a job interview conducted over dinner.

When questions come one after another, the conversation becomes formal and predictable. Where did you grow up? What do you do? How long have you been single? What are you looking for?

The answers may provide information, but they do not necessarily create connection.

Instead of gathering facts, create a moment together.

Share something amusing that happened during your day. Ask about a favorite place they have visited. Tell a story that reveals a little of your personality. Allow the conversation to wander. Laugh when something is funny. Let there be a comfortable pause without rushing to fill it.

People connect through feelings and shared experiences, not through perfectly completed questionnaires.

The small step is to stop trying to learn everything and focus on enjoying something together.

At the end of the date, your questions do not need to be answered. You only need to leave with one feeling: “I enjoyed being with this person, and I would like to know more.”
