VALENTINE’S DAY

Valentine’s Day is a special day on so many different levels. Whether you are part of a couple or not, remember, Valentine’s Day isn’t elitely for romance. In fact, many couples say Valentine’s Day creates a forced feeling of “having to do something important“ to show affection and love. Others call it a big bonanza for the greeting card and flower industries. Nonetheless, it is designated as a day of love, and just because you don’t have a significant other, it doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate the love of friends, family, animals, nature, hobbies, etc. I’m guessing for most, what’s really important in all meaningful relationships is to feel appreciated, accepted and understood.
Feb. 14 is a special day dedicated to loving your family, friends, and most importantly yourself. It’s a great opportunity to pamper and attend to yourself, whether alone or with a partner. We all know there is a difference between being alone and lonely. After all, love isn’t all about finding that special someone…it’s about embracing and loving the good things in your life, and that can be more fulfilling than being in a relationship that isn’t working.
Let’s be honest, the most important relationship is with yourself. You determine your own outlook on life and only you can change that perspective by the power of positive thoughts and focus. Celebrate you and all you have accomplished in your life. Focus on what is good in your life. Reach out to others.
If you’re with a significant other or not, leave time for yourself to recharge and do at least one thing for yourself that is special. Spoil yourself and do something fun.
Here are a few ideas:
• Spend time with a friend (take a socially distanced, masked walk together; have dinner at a restaurant that is following COVID safety protocols if you are comfortable; or plan a fun activity you can do together over FaceTime, Zoom, Google Meet, etc.)
• Treat yourself to a spa day or haircut
• Cook a special dinner
• Have a glass of champagne
• Wear something special
• Do something nice for someone
• Catch up on sleep
• Love yourself
Love is truly the joy of life and certainly worth celebrating. Remember your hopes and dreams, those you have achieved as well as others still on the horizon.
